What inspired you to create Fe'lix, Inside & Out?
For years I had a mommy blog and in 2018, I rebranded (& renamed) so that I could cover more broad topics. I love sharing my motherhood journey, but people were always super engaged when I talked about lifestyle choices. I wasn’t surprised - I have a tendency to not fit in one box, and being a mommy blogger did just that — it put me in a box. I wanted to create a space where I could write about all things wellness, Inside & Out. I wanted to help people navigate their personal journeys to living healthier all through the lens of motherhood. Green beauty was a fun and exciting place to start the conversation because, as women, it’s something we all interact with daily. But the beauty space was only ever meant to be the gateway. My background is in research, medicine, and wellness, so it’s essential to me to teach the why behind the choices. Teach a woman to fish, and all that.
What’s your ultimate goal or big dream?
Before blogging, I was in traditional wellness roles and worked with non-profits speaking and educating on policy and patient/health care advocacy. I’d love to expand into the wellness space as an expert doing similar work. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s the ultimate goal, because I hope that target continues to move as I grow, but I’d love to be speaking on wellness panels, discussing ways to make wellness more accessible and diverse, and advocating for those most in need of that access within the next few years. Education, advocacy, public speaking… sign me up!
How would you describe your skin?
Normal to dry with some hyper-pigmentation. I have freckled skin that is reactive (but not sensitive) and so I am prone to hyper-pigmentation; luckily I'm not acne prone and only experience the occasional breakout.
What's your favorite ingredient in skincare?
Probably hyaluronic acid (or retinol). For many years my skin was extremely dry, so I became obsessed with products that were moisturizing. Anything to get moisture in! Now that my skin has a better moisture balance, I still reach for products with HA because hydration is so important as we age. A runner-up is probably clean, natural retinol. Lightening hyper-pigmentation is a big part of the retinol draw for me, but with age, I’m beginning to appreciate all of the fantastic benefits of retinol.
Which Wabi-Sabi Botanicals product do you reach for most often?
I cannot put down The Offering Ageless Ritual Facial Mist.
Why do you love it?
It’s brightening, makes my skin glow, and the scent is divine. The earthiness of the Frankincense mixed with the Orange Blossom is so soothing. I use it as a part of my skincare routine, and then mist generously throughout the day. I even mist my daughter, she’s obsessed.
What’s your ideal #SelfCareSunday?
Awake before my children (ha!), sneak off to hot yoga + sauna session, return home to brunch with the family + coffee, spending some time alone (reading, masking, showering in silence) before spending the rest of the day with my family. We like to spend a lot of time outdoors in the Spring-Fall. This winter we’ve been doing afternoon movies. We also do family dinners together. An ideal #SelfCareSunday would end with a sound bath + meditation. As a mom, self-care absolutely must include time away from my children and husband, but no day is ideal without them in it. So I work hard to find the balance.
Beauty is...
Infinite.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Telepathy. I promise I’d use it for good.
If you could stand on top of a mountain and say one thing that every woman in the world would hear, what would it be?
Whatever you are, that is enough. It’s everything.
