25+ Affordable Gift Ideas That Support Small Businesses

Well, people, we made it. It's 2020, the holidays are coming up, and more than ever, we need each other and small businesses need our support. As a small business myself, I know how much it means when you all choose to support Wabi-Sabi Botanicals - even more so after the year we've all had! So I've put together this #ShopSmall holiday gift guide to make your holiday shopping a breeze, while also sharing and supporting some of my favorite, affordable small business gift finds.

If you're looking for gifts that support small business, are sustainable, give back, are beautiful and practical, and don't break the bank - you've landed in the right spot. Let's get into it!

When it comes to gift for babies and kids, I'm all about: practical, educational, versatile, durable, and affordable. I gravitate towards natural materials, stay away from plastic and electronics (ie. light-up toys), and obviously look for high quality that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Quality over quantity alllll day, every day. These brands tick all the boxes for me.

Mebie Baby

Honey Ribbed Two Piece Cozy Set - $28

Village Mini+ Portable Playmat - $86

Now that we're spending more time at home than probably ever before, I love the idea of giving gifts that add joy, beauty, or comfort to someone's home and person! When it comes to home & lifestyle items, I look for quality (yes, you pay more, but wait for sales!), beautiful textures, neutral colors, and personalized / keepsake-type gifts. See below for some of my faves this year!

Tierra y Mano

Baja Basket - $54

Real Fun, Wow!

'Grateful' Print - $40 (There are so many beautiful prints to choose from!)

If you have any foodies or snackers on your list, there's nothing more practical than a delicious gift they can eat. If they can bake it fresh at home, even better. Shipped food items can be unusually expensive when you add on the high shipping costs, but good news - these are the exception and they support small businesses. Win win!

Uncle Eddie's Vegan Cookies

Vegan Molasses Cookies - $6

Dot's Prezels

Family Size Original Seasoned Homestyle Pretzels - $5.99

Porto's Bakery

Bake-at-Home Cheese Rolls [1 Dozen] - $16.99 (Probably one of my favorite discoveries this year - be sure to check out their other Bake-at-Home pastries.)

While gifting skincare can *sometimes* be a hit or miss, you can never go wrong with gifting beautiful body care products or spa (ie. facials, massages) treatments if you have the budget for it! For beauty and body care gifts, I look for natural and non-toxic, beautiful, and functional - the type of gifts that encourage our loved ones to take a little time for self-care.

TIP: Look up local holistic estheticians or spas in your area and ask about specials, spa packages, gift certificates, etc. - these professionals have been hit hard in 2020 and will appreciate the support!

Kate McLeod

Daily Body Stone - $14-45

Ancient Oat Hydration Crush Bath Soak - $24

The Faces of the Moon Botanical Skincare Studio [Eureka, CA - look for local holistic estheticians in your area!]

'Magical Garden' Facial and Spa Package - Price Varies ~$60-165

'Cereal' Soy Candle - $23.80 (Check out her other unique scents as well!)

She Plants Love

The Butter - $23+

Every year, I ask the same question and every year I get the same answer: "I don't know", "I don't want anything", OR (my personal favorite) "a Tesla." When it comes to shopping for men, I look for quality, practical items I know my guy will actually use. One year I bought him a planner, and it went untouched all. year. and then expired. Another year, I got him a personalized leather wallet and he hasn't stopped using or talking about it since. Enough said.

TIP: You can never go wrong with gift cards to his favorite, local food joints - think locally-owned small businesses, rather than big restaurant chains or fast food. This supports your local community and you know he'll love it!

Northwind Supply

Personalized Leather Mousepad - $22 (Huge assortment of reasonably priced, personalized leather goods - keychains, glass sleeves, etc.)

 BE. Creations & Designs

State Bottle Opener made with Recycled Steel - $12 (Check out their ornaments as well!)

Personalized Distressed Leather Wallet - $33

After almost an entire year spent 'quarantined' indoors, don't be afraid to gift your loved ones the gift of an experience! It's safe to say we could all use more connection, more fun, lightheartedness, activity and time spent outside this year. Look up local small businesses that offer gift certificates for:

  • Horseback riding
  • 'Rage rooms' (where you go in and smash things for fun!)
  • Axe-throwing
  • Whale watching
  • Wine tasting
  • Kayaking and other water activities
  • Paintball
  • Go-kart racing (ie. K1 Speedway)
  • Escape rooms
  • Archery
  • Boat tours and more - whatever they might be interested in!

While some of these experiences can cost a pretty penny, you'll find tons of great deals for local small businesses on Groupon

So, with that, I hope you've found this #ShopSmall Holiday Gift Guide helpful! I am so appreciative to all of my customers and try to pay it forward by supporting other small businesses the way you support mine. If you'd like to support Wabi-Sabi Botanicals this year, these are a few of my favorite gift items we're offering (or will be offering in the next few weeks!)

The Alchemist Vanilla Coffee Ritual Body Oil - $32 [COMING SOON]

Balinese Coffee + Cocoa Butter Cleansing Bar - $12

Valley of Light Illuminative Facial Mask - $34

Happy holiday shopping, beautiful people, and hang in there - it's almost 2021! xo
